is an independent city agency that is charged with bringing the City of Atlanta into compliance with the Code of Ethics and instilling a culture of ethics within city government. The Code of Ethics covers conflicts of interest, gifts, and financial disclosure.
The Board seeks to protect the integrity of government and promote the public trust through interpreting, administering, and enforcing the city’s ethical standards. Its staff provides ethics training to city employees, elected officials, and city board members; gives advice on the city’s standards of conduct; investigates ethics complaints; enforces the city’s ethics law; and monitors the financial disclosure process.
The seven members of the board are city residents selected by legal, business, civic, and educational groups. While serving on the board, members are prohibited from making campaign contributions to candidates in city elections and from engaging in other city election political activities.
The Board of Ethics has jurisdiction over the Standards of Conduct in the City's Code of Ordinance, which covers the following issues:
- Conflicts of interest
- Gratuities and gifts
- Travel, meals, and refreshments
- Use of city property
- Extra jobs and outside employment
- Doing business with the city
- Use of confidential information
- Representing private interests before city agencies
- Representing private interests in matters adverse to the city
- Financial disclosure
- One-year cooling off period
